Parent Code of Conduct
As a parent and member of Hyland Hills Hockey Association, you understand that it is important for your child to get the most out of participating in youth sports. To ensure that your child has an enjoyable experience, youth hockey aims to deliver on the “Three Promises:”
1. PROMISE OF FUN
The thrill of carrying the puck up the ice, the exhilaration of scoring their first goal or the camaraderie of skating with friends is possible due to the fun and encouraging environment youth hockey provides to try new things and grow as a person.
2. PROMISE OF GUIDANCE
Ice hockey is unique because a new player must start from the very basics of essentially learning to walk again. Our hockey program has coaches that are able to teach the, sometimes challenging, skills of ice hockey in a fun, engaging manner.
3. PROMISE OF ACHIEVEMENT
You will be amazed at the progress your child will make in a short amount of time. Both you and your player will walk away from the rink each day, excited about all the new things that your young hockey player has started to learn on the ice.
When attending HHHA sponsored events, each parent, therefore agrees - as follows:
- I will be a positive role model for my child and other children - encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, officials and spectators at every game, practice or other sporting event.
- I will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player, or parent such as booing, taunting or using profane language or gestures, etc.
- I will not encourage any behaviors or practices that would endanger the health and wellbeing of the athletes.
- I will teach my child to play by the spirit of the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.
- I will demand that my child treat other players, coaches, officials and spectators with respect regardless of race, sex, or ability.
- I will never ridicule or yell at my child or other participant for making a mistake or losing a competition.
- I will respect the officials and their authority during games and will never question, discuss, or confront coaches or referees at a facility, and will take time to speak with coaches at an agreed upon time and place.
- I will refrain from coaching my child or other players during games and practices, unless I am one of the official coaches of the team.
- I will inform the coach of any physical and/or mental challenges, disability or ailment that may affect the safety of my child or the safety of others.
- I will strictly abide by all rink rules regarding sanitation, wearing masks, distancing, spectating, pre/post event preparation requirements, and arrival/departure times, and will not question those rules.
By being a Member of Hyland Hills Hockey Association I also agree that if I fail to abide by the aforementioned rules and guidelines, I will be subject to disciplinary action in HHHA’s sole discretion that could include, but is not limited to the following:
- Verbal warning by official, head coach, and/or member of league organization
